Arts Odyssey Academy Music Intensive Track Music • DJ Culture • Creative Leadership • Performance Program Length: 2–6 Weeks (customizable) Format: Studio-based instruction + practice labs + performance Open to: Beginner–advanced; no experience required Program Overview The Music Intensive Track introduces students to the art and culture of DJing while building real, hands-on technical skills. Students learn how DJs shape energy, emotion, and community through sound—then develop their own style through practice, collaboration, and performance. The program culminates in a live showcase set (solo or group). Core Modules 1) Foundations of Music & DJ Culture Students explore the roots and purpose of DJing across genres and communities. Students learn: DJ history + cultural impact (hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, reggaeton, pop, etc.) Beat, tempo (BPM), rhythm, and song structure Genre ID + basic music theory for DJs Ethics and professionalism (crowd respect, clean edits, consent, credits) Listening skills: “What makes a song move people?” Outputs: DJ culture journal + genre map + “DJ identity” mood board 2) DJ Skills & Technical Practice Students build real technique through guided drills and practice sessions. Students learn: Equipment basics (controller, mixer, headphones, speakers) Cueing, beatmatching fundamentals, and timing Smooth transitions (intro/outro mixing, phrasing, simple blends) EQ (high/mid/low) + gain staging for clean sound Song prep: trimming, hot cues, loops Basic troubleshooting and safe setup Outputs: Skills checklist + recorded practice mixes (weekly) 3) Music Curation, Storytelling & Audience Awareness Students learn to create sets that feel intentional—like a story. Students learn: Curating a set with an “arc” (build, peak, release) Reading the room + adjusting in real time Set planning for different events (school dance, showcase, chill lounge) Clean versions and age-appropriate selection
